City Manager Craig Owens announced on May 31, 2023 that Brian Thomas has been selected as the new Director of Information Technology for the City of Lawrence. Brian has served as the Interim Director of Information Technology since October 2022.

“Brian is a one-of-a-kind leader who has already made a tremendous impact on our organization and the community we serve,” said Owens. “We are excited to see where his vision takes us as both as the leader of our IT Department and of the Efficient and Effective Processes commitment of our strategic plan.”

Thomas has worked in the technology space for more than 25 years, including previous roles as Chief Information Officer. As an experienced senior executive, he has provided strategic and technical direction in IT service management and operations; however, his true passion is working with people and serving others. He initially joined the City of Lawrence in July 2021 as the Assistant Director of Technology.

“I am beyond excited to continue working with our team at the City of Lawrence,” Thomas said. “We have ambitious goals for our organization’s future and I look forward to bringing our vision to life.”

Thomas holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Baker University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology, with a Certificate in Organizational Management, from the University of Virginia. He also has several certificates in emerging technologies from MIT.
